The main thing
The amount of the policy depends on the following parameters:
- Basic insurance premium
- Age and length of service of the driver
- The region where the car is registered
- Accident history (bonus-malus)
- Vehicle life
- Type of vehicle
- Insurance period
What do these parameters mean?
Let's look at each one separately and figure out how to find your own.
Age and experience of the car owner
According to statistics, the more experienced and older a driver is, the fewer accidents are caused by him. Therefore, for such drivers, the cost of insurance will be lower than for those who just got behind the wheel. In total, there are 4 types of coefficients:
Less than 25 years / driving experience of less than 2 years – coefficient 1.10
Less than 25 years/driving experience of more than 2 years – coefficient 1.05
25 years and older/driving experience of less than 2 years – coefficient 1.05
25 years and older/driving experience of more than 2 years – coefficient of 1.00
For example, if a driver is 34 years old and has been driving for 7 years, his coefficient will be equal to 1.00. Those new drivers who are under 25 will have to pay the most for insurance. Their coefficient will be 1.10.
The region where the car is registered
Accidents happen more often in big cities than in smaller cities. Of course, this is not because drivers are more careful in small towns, but only because there are many more cars in big cities and, consequently, accidents. Therefore, if you are a resident of Turkestan, you will pay less for insurance than the drivers of Almaty or Astana. But do not forget that we are talking about the "registration" of a car. If you are located in Turkestan and your car is registered in Almaty, the Almaty coefficient will be applied when calculating the cost of the policy.
The coefficient for Almaty is 2.31
The coefficient for Turkestan is 1.74
The coefficients of other regions can be viewed in the file "Correction coefficients of OGPO VTS" at the link.
By the way, this coefficient is revised every year. If the region has become less accident-prone, then the coefficient will also become smaller.
Vehicle type
Insurance in our country is mandatory for drivers of any vehicles, be it a motorcycle, bus or passenger car. Each type also has its own coefficient. For example, it is 2.09 for passenger cars, 3.98 for trucks, and 1.0 for motorcycles.
Vehicle service life
There are only 2 coefficients here - cars older than 7 years and younger. If your iron friend is not yet 7 years old, then your coefficient will be 1, and if more, 1.1, and you will have to pay a little more for insurance.
Accident history or "bonus malus"
The accident history or "bonus malus" can be compared to the "credit history" in a bank: the cleaner it is, the better. The fewer accidents you have committed, the better for you – the amount of your insurance will be lower than that of those who are frequent perpetrators of accidents. The insurance amount will be higher for them. You can view your bonus malus class in the Insurance History section on the website of JSC State Credit Bureau at the link.
What else can affect the total cost of an insurance policy?
The driver's residency, additional people/drivers in the insurance policy, and various correction factors, if any, also affect the cost of insurance.
Important
It is important to remember that the OGPO policy is mandatory for all drivers and its absence entails a fine of 10 MCI or 39320 tenge in 2025.
It is also important to remember that the OGPO policy only insures the driver's liability, not the car itself. That is, in the event of an accident, the insurance company will pay compensation only to the injured party.
OGPO does not compensate for any other damage: if an icicle fell on your car and damaged it, or you "caught" a stone and your windshield broke, OGPO will not help you. Similarly, OGPO will not compensate for damage to the affected car if the culprit of the accident is difficult to identify, as, for example, in the case of mass collisions of cars due to ice.
To avoid such cases, you can apply for a hard hat policy, which will allow you to insure a car against all risks (theft, arson, falling of a tree on a car, natural disasters, theft of mirrors, wheels, etc., damage to a car in the parking lot, and much more). You can apply for a CASCO policy with a 50% discount by following the link.
